Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.

CHICAGO (2/24/2022) – Children and adults alike will be enchanted by Lyric Opera of Chicago’s upcoming, fully staged production of The Magic Victrola on Sunday, April 24th at 2 p.m. This one-afternoon-only event is a delightful way for children and adults to experience the joy and magic of opera. The original production, featuring some of opera's most famous arias, is specifically designed for children ages 5 to 10, but people of all ages will enjoy this story brought to life by the Lyric Opera Orchestra and extraordinary artists from Lyric's Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center.

"We are thrilled to round off Lyric’s hugely successful return to live performances in the opera house with this special presentation of The Magic Victrola, a delightful and entertaining introduction to opera, perfect for all families," offers Lyric’s General Director, President & CEO Anthony Freud. "We hope to welcome to Lyric many young people (as well as those who are young at heart) to share in the excitement of opera".

The Magic Victrola adventure begins when Gracie and Sam are dropped off at their Grandpa's place for summer vacation. While at first the kids are less than excited to be without their modern comforts, things get much more interesting when they discover their grandfather's old victrola and his prized collection of opera records suddenly comes to life! With the help of the mysterious birdman, Papageno, Gracie and Sam are off on a musical adventure through some of opera's most delightful hits.

Audiences will be treated to selections from some of the most widely beloved operas, including The Magic FluteThe Elixir of LoveCarmen, and more in this whimsical, original work. Big screens beside the stage will help the audience feel closer to every moment of the action.

Tickets are priced at just $5 for children and $10 for adults. For more information about The Magic Victrola and to purchase tickets now, visit lyricopera.org/magicvictrola.
